This annual concert features dances by selected JMU dance majors, former JMU dance professor Cynthia Thompson, and CVPA Dean Rubén Graciani, who—in collaboration with The Madison Singers, JMU Chorale, the JMU Percussion Ensemble and JMU dance students—will premiere Triptych, a fast-moving, three-movement work by Grammy-nominated composer Tarik O’Regan (b. 1978). Join us for a pre-show talk Sunday, April 2 at 1:15 pm with Tarik O'Regan in the Concert Hall.

Wanchi is an active solo and chamber musician, having performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center with Curtis on Tour, and at numerous festivals worldwide. Fellow JMU faculty member Lori Piitz will join Wanchi in a program that also features works for violin and piano.

Considered one of the greatest operas of the 17th century, The Coronation of Poppea is Monteverdi’s final masterpiece. Composed in 1642, the Italian opera uses elegantly-crafted music of the Baroque era to paint a portrait of human beings wrestling with the demands of lust, honor, power and rank. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

Eric Guinivan’s music has been performed across the United States, Europe, and Asia and has received notable honors from BMI, ASCAP, Chamber Music America, the Theodore Presser Foundation, and Meet the Composer. A Grammy-nominated percussionist, Eric was a founding member of the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet.
