Experience the JMU Symphony Orchestra as they accompany the winners of the prestigious School of Music Concerto Competition. Majors from each of the five areas of the School (woodwinds, brass and percussion, strings, piano, and voice) compete in the competition. Two finalists are then selected by each area to compete in the finals for a coveted spot in the honors concert. The second half of the program will feature the strings of the JMU Symphony Orchestra along with The Madison Singers, JMU Chorale and JMU dance students in Triptych (2005), a fast-moving, three-movement work by Grammy-nominated composer Tarik O’Regan (b. 1978). The uplifting and unifying piece about what happens when we die draws from Jewish, Islamic and Christian texts.
