The New York Times

Established in 1985, the Amsterdam-based ensemble Calefax Reed Quintet is one of the world’s most innovative musical ensembles acclaimed for its contemporary yet timeless interpretations of classical music. From early music to classical and jazz to world premieres, in the hands of Calefax, it all sounds fresh and new. The Times of London has called the group, “five extremely gifted Dutch gents who almost made the reed quintet seem (like) the best musical format on the planet.” Oliver Boekhoorn (oboe), Ivar Berix (clarinet), Raaf Hekkema (saxophone), Jelte Althuis (bass clarinet) and Alban Wesly (bassoon) arrange, recompose and interpret music from eight centuries to suit their unique constellation. The quintet has released 18 recordings, each garnering rave reviews from the international press. https://calefax.nl/en
