Join us for the 45th Annual JMU Contemporary Music Festival featuring music by guest Korean American composer, Texu Kim. Kim creates sophisticated, culturally grounded works described as “exuberant, colorful washes of sound… punchy bass lines, snappy brass fanfares and suave... solos” (San Diego Story). Kim received the 2026 AAAL Arts and Letters Award in Music; in 2023, Kim was one of 14 composers to receive a commission from Harvard University’s Fromm Music Foundation and won the Barlow Award in 2021. Reviews around the world have called his work “witty and colorful” (Minnesota Orchestra) and “inventive music, which merges disparate elements in seamless ways” (San Diego Union-Tribune). The Festival features JMU faculty and student performers, with as well as the JMU’s Chamber Orchestra at 2 pm, the Madison Singers at 4 pm, and the Wind Symphony, the Symphony Orchestra and Harrisonburg’s Eastern Mennonite School Orchestra at 7 pm. Tickets may be purchased individually for each performance or purchase all three as a series ticket.
