The New York Times

Created in collaboration with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and JMG Live, this multimedia extravaganza captures the magical sights and sounds of the Harlem Renaissance when legendary artists like Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Ethel Waters and Billie Holiday made Harlem the cultural capital of the country. Harlem 100 pays homage to these artistic greats made famous at the Apollo Theater, the Cotton Club, and other New York City venues. Jazz standout Michael Mwenso is joined by his big band backup, The Shakes, to bring audiences a rousing show featuring Brianna Thomas, “the best young straight-ahead jazz singer of her generation,” (Wall Street Journal) South African jazz vocalist Vuyo Sotashe, and tap dancer extraordinaire Michela Marino Lerman. Come celebrate 100 years of this momentous movement in American history!
