ARTWORK BY AMANDA R. WILSON

Be transported to magical Vienna in an evening of romantic and cheerful melodies drawn from operettas and songs by Johann Strauss II and his contemporaries. Known as “The Waltz King,” Strauss composed over 500 waltzes, polka and quadrilles in his lifetime—and popularized the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Students from the JMU Opera Theater are poised to launch their careers, and this concert is your opportunity to see an incredible talented core of future stars perform songs by Strauss including “The Blue Danube” and “Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiss” from his operetta, Wiener Blut (Viennese Spirit), tunes from Franz Lehár’s Guiditta, Richard Heuberger’s waltz duet, “Geh’n wir in’s Chambre séparée,” from Der Opernball (The Opera Ball), and more. Learn Viennese waltzes and enjoy Linzer torte and coffee in the lobby following the performance!
